Dresser, Carter, Epperly take major honors

FERRUM, Va. - Fresh off a third straight Top-10 finish at the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships, Virginia Tech hauled in the state’s top hardware on the 2015 VaSID All-State Team. Devin Carter earned Wrestler of the Year, Zach Epperly Rookie of the Year and Kevin Dresser Coach of the Year.

Carter closed out his career with a third-place finish at the national championships at 141 pounds. He went 32-3 this season and won the ACC title. Carter was selected to participate in the NWCA All-Star Classic as a showcase match, where he defeated Penn’s C.J. Cobb 17-11 in an exhibition match. Epperly placed seventh at the NCAA Tournament, wrestling at 174 pounds. He closed the season at 24-8. His pin over No. 13 Mark Martin in overtime helped Virginia Tech upset No. 4 Ohio State.

Dresser led the Hokies to a 14-2 dual meet record and was named ACC Coach of the Year for the third straight season. He produced four All-Americans and led Virginia Tech to a win over eventual national champion Ohio State. Dresser’s squad captured the ACC dual meet championship and won the 2015 Virginia Duals.
