BLACKSBURG – Devin Carter of the Virginia Tech wrestling squad has been selected to the 2014 Capital One Academic All-District Men’s At-Large Team announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America Thursday morning. The Capital One Academic All-District At-Large Team recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
The Academic All-District teams include student-athlete that are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. Carter is one of 10 student-athletes that were selected from District Three which includes the states: North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.
Carter, a psychology major, won his third ACC wrestling title this year and went on to finish second at the NCAA Championships at 141 pounds, earning his second All-America honor. He was named the Most Outstaning Wrestler of the ACC Championship and the state wrestler of the year by VaSID. He was also named to the ACC Academic All-Wrestling squad, earning the Academic Scholar-Athlete of the Year award, and to the NWCA All-Academic Team. This is the second CoSIDA academic recognition for Carter.
As a redshirt junior, he went 18-1 on the season. Nine of his 18 wins came by pin, with two by a technical fall and two by major decision.
He is now eligible for Academic All-America honors.
