Carter named to 2010-11 NWCA Division I All-Academic True Freshman squad
Two of five honored are from the ACC
The National Wrestling Coaches Association has announced its annual Division I NWCA All-Academic True Freshman wrestlers for the 2010-11 wrestling season.

These five wrestlers boasted many accomplishments this season both in the classroom and on the wrestling mat.

In order to be selected each individual must have completed two full semesters at their institution along with met a particular GPA and competition mark.

Four of these true freshman competed at the NCAA Division I Championships: Tyler Small (Kent State), Alan Waters (Missouri), Joseph Spisak (Virginia) and Devin Carter (Virginia Tech).

“These student-athletes are in a huge transitional year as they work to adapt to college life. Being able to see their success at this stage both academically and athletically is quite the accomplishment. We look forward to seeing many more great things from these student-athletes in the future,” said NWCA President Brian Smith.

Rounding out the top wrestlers academically were: Devin Carter (3.64) of Virginia Tech, Joseph Spisak (3.49) of the University of Virginia, Tyler Small (3.34) of Kent State University, Alan Waters (3.21) of Missouri, and Daniel Scherer (3.20) of Stanford.
