Live Results: Bob Pollock Invite / JDL Camel City Invite / Penn State National Invite
BLACKSBURG, Va. – After a promising opening weekend, the Virginia Tech Track & Field team will split and compete at three different meets Friday and Saturday.
Hokie pole vaulters will travel to the Penn State National Invitational in State College, Pennsylvania. Tech returns to action after three top-five finishes on day two of the Viriginia Tech Invite. For the USTFCCCA's fourth-ranked men’s team, Torben Laidig and Deakin Volz currently own the top mark in the nation of 5.46m (17-11). For the women’s team, Erica Hjerpe placed second in her debut as a Hokie.
Tech’s distance runners head to the JDL Camel City Invitational in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Thomas Curtin led the men’s team at the VT Invite to five top-10 finishes as he took the crown with a 4:13.65 mile followed by Darren Barlow and Stuart Robertson in second and third. Vincent Ciattei placed second in the 3,000-meter run with Patrick Joseph coming in fourth. On the women’s side, Katie Kennedy finished the 1,000-meter race in the five-spot, while Shannon Morton took fourth in the 3,000-meter run.
Rounding out the weekend’s competition, Virginia Tech sprinters travel to the Bob Pollock Classic in Clemson, South Carolina. Shanel Burr and Nora McKiver led the women’s team following first and third place finishes in the 60-meter hurdles at the Virginia Tech Invitational, respectively. On the men’s side, Darius Watkins set a personal record in the 60-meter hurdles to place fourth in the final.
The Hokies return to Blacksburg next weekend to host the Virginia Tech “Doc Hale” Elite Meet in Rector Fieldhouse from Thursday, Feb. 4 to Saturday, Feb. 6.
