
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Thomas Curtin posted a first-place finish in the men’s 3000 meter race with a top-10 time nationally to pace the Hokie distance runners on the final day of the Hilton Garden Innvitational on Saturday afternoon.
Curtin won the men’s 3000-meter race crossing the finish line at 7:56.10. Curtin’s time was less than two seconds away from setting a school record. Based on results prior to this weekend’s meet, that time lands Curtin in the top-10 nationally in the 3000-meter distance.
Patrick Joseph posted a sixth-place finish in the men;s one-mile race with a time of 4:00.47, while teammate Neil Gourley finished in eighth place with a time of 4:04.06. Joseph’s time moves him into third all time in the Virginia Tech record books while Gourley’s time puts him in sixth place all time in the records.
Prince Owusu finished in eighth place in the men’s 800 with a time of 1:52.67.
Hanna Green was the fastest collegiate runner in the women’s 800 finishing in fourth place overall with a time of 2:06.62. Amanda Smith finished in sixth place with a time of 2:07.03.
Paige Kvartunas posted a fifth-place finish in the women’s 3000-meter race. Kvartunas crossed the line with a time of 9:27.20, moving her to fifth all-time in the Virginia Tech record books.
Shannon Morton finished in ninth in the women’s one-mile race. Morton finished in a time of 4:50.34.
Tech will be back in action next weekend when it hosts the Virginia Tech Elite Meet.
