Hokies perform well at Texas and Raleigh Relays
Several personal bests shattered at meets

AUSTIN, Texas and RALEIGH, N.C. – Several personal bests were shattered as the Hokies performed well at both the Texas Relays and Raleigh Relays on Friday evening.

At the Texas Relays, Martina Schultze finished in second place, just missing out on beating the 2014 Indoor National Champion Kaitlin Petrillose from the University of Texas. Schultze’s hit a mark of 15’5.25” (4.40m).

Torben Laidig finished in 11th place in the men’s pole vault with a mark of 17’6.50” (5.35m).

Meanwhile at the Raleigh Relays in the “C” section of the women’s 5000-meter race, Shannon Morton finished in second place with a time of 17:06.89, shattering her personal best by more than a minute and a half.

Jasmine Mitchell finished in second place in the women’s 400-meter race with a time of 54.13 seconds. Hanna Green finished in fifth place in the same race with a time of 54.87 seconds.

Amanda Smith earned a fifth-place finish in the women’s 1500-meter race with a time of 4:22.72, her personal best at the distance.

In the women’s 10,000-meter race, Sarah Rapp earned a second-place finish after posting a time 0f 34:26.11. Abigail Motley finished in 10th place in the same race with a time of 35:27.92.

In section “C” of the men’s 5000-meter race, Neil Gourley finished in second place with a time of 14:23.81.

George Carter finished in second place with a time of 14:48.49 in the “D” section of the men’s 5000-meter race. In the same race, Andrew Gaiser finished in seventh place with a time of 14:59.76.

The Hokies' competitors at the Texas Relays have finished while several members of the Virginia Tech track & field team will finish competing tomorrow at the Raleigh Relays.
