Six Hokies qualify in Platform on final day of Zones

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Virginia Tech earned three more automatic bids to the NCAA Championships on Wednesday during the final day of NCAA Diving Zone A Championships at the Rutgers Aquatic Center in Piscataway, New Jersey.

Thomas Shinholser led the Hokies, claiming the top spot in the platform event with a score of 763.80. Mauro Castro-Silva took third in the event with a score of 669.15. Both are automatic qualifiers for the NCAA Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships.

Jack Gigliotti and Ben Schiesl also qualified in platform after earning automatic bids earlier in the week. Schiesl finished ninth today, scoring 602.90 while Gigliotti was 10th with a score of 580.50.

On the women’s side, Ashlynn Peters finished fourth in the platform to earn an automatic qualifying spot, scoring 458.60.

Ashley Buchter also qualified, finishing seventh with a score of 446.10. She earned an automatic spot earlier in the week.
