Eight H2Okies named to All-ACC Academic Team

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Virginia Tech swimming and diving program has eight representatives on this year’s swimming and diving All-ACC Academic team, the conference announced Wednesday.

Seniors Caroline Buscaglia, Maggie Gruber, Jessica Hespeler and sophomore Ashlynn Peters represent the H2Okies on the women’s squad while senior Brandon Fiala, junior Mauro Castro Silva and sophomore Ben Schiesl and Ian Ho represent on the men’s side.

The women H2Okies tied with Duke, Florida State and Miami for the second-most honorees with four apiece. Buscaglia, a political science major, adds the All-Academic Team selection to a senior campaign which also saw her receive the prestigious ACC Postgraduate Scholarship. Gruber was named to the All-Academic Team for a third time.

This season, Fiala is the only male swimming and diving student-athlete to be named to the All-Academic team for the fourth time.
