ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Virginia Tech men’s and women’s divers completed the NCAA Zone A Championships with six divers qualifying in at least one event for the 2016 NCAA Championships.
Wednesday was the preliminaries and finals of the platform event for both the men and women. Logan Stevens finished first in the men’s platform event while Leah Piemonte finished fifth in the women’s as they both joined the four Hokies who had previously qualified for the NCAA Championships in at least one event.
“I was very happy to have six divers qualify for a combined total of 14 entries to the NCAA's is a terriffic accomplishment. I'm thrilled for Logan to get to finish his career at the NCAA Championships. I'm also thrilled for Leah. In order for her to qualify, she had to hit all her dives in both the prelims and the finals and she did. I'm very proud of all the divers”, head diving coach Ron Piemonte said.
Piemonte scored a 439.75 while Ashlynn Peters finished seventh in the women's platform with a score of 430.10. For the men, Eduardo Castro-Silva finished seventh with a score of 595.40 while Jack Gigliotti finished eighth with a 591.40.
