BLACKSBURG - The Virginia Tech men’s and women’s diving teams are set to compete in the 2015 NCAA Zone A Diving Championships at the Alumni Arena Natatorium in Buffalo, New York, beginning on Monday at noon.
Tech will send men’s divers Kyle Butts, Thomas Shinholser, Logan Stevens and Mauro Castro-Silva and women’s divers Kaylea Arnett, Kelli Stockton, Ashley Buchter, Emma Villarreal and Katie Bean to the NCAA qualifying event.
The top-seven finishers in all the women’s events will automatically qualify for the NCAA Championships, and the top-five in the men’s 1-meter and the top-seven in the men’s 3-meter and platform will automatically qualify for the NCAA Championships. There are a few additional at-large bids possible as well.
A few weeks ago, the H2Okies competed in the ACC Championships where the men and women divers took home a total of six medals. Arnett won her fourth ACC Most Valuable Diver award after winning gold in the 3-meter and platform and taking bronze in the 1-meter. Villarreal also won a bronze in the platform. For the men, Stevens took silver in the 3-meter before Shinholser closed out the championships with a bronze for the platform.
The event is free and open to the public.
