BLACKSBURG - The Virginia Tech swimming & diving teams hit the road for an ACC meet at Notre Dame with Pittsburgh on Friday and Saturday.
"I expect us to go to Notre Dame and have an awesome weekend and have a lot of fun,” head coach Ned Skinner said. “Pittsburgh and Notre Dame are relatively new to the conference so we're still establishing these rivalries so I think it's going to be a really good challenge. If we go out and do what we know we're capable of doing, I like our chances."
Both the 12th-ranked men and the women recently travelled to North Carolina for meets against UNC and Duke where both teams fell to the Tar Heels but beat the Blue Devils. The H2Okies picked up nine wins in their loss to UNC, and they picked up 22 wins in the win against Duke.
Kaylea Arnett earned ACC diver of the week honors after her performance where she won three events and registered NCAA qualifying zones in all four of her dives.
One of Tech’s male divers, Thomas Shinholser, also dove exceptionally, winning both 3-meter diving events and breaking his personal best score by posting a 379.50 at UNC.
Collin Higgins led the men by winning three events in all over the weekend. Morgan Latimer also took home two victories against Duke, winning the 100 and 200 butterfly events.
For the women, freshman Klaudia Nazieblo has made quite a splash in her first few weeks as a college swimmer. She picked up two wins against Duke and helped two relay teams win. Weronika Paluszek has also been a valuable asset to the H2Okies, winning the 200 breaststroke in all three meets this season and picking up three wins at UNC and Duke.
The Pittsburgh men’s team comes into this weekend’s meet having beaten Duke, St. Bonaventure and Bucknell already this year and lost to Georgia Tech. The women earned wins against Georgia Tech, Georgia Southern, St. Bonaventure and Bucknell but fell to Duke.
The Notre Dame’s men’s squad was victories at the Dennis Stark Relays but fell to Purdue last weekend. The women’s team posted wins against Michigan State and Vanderbilt, but lost to Georgia Tech, South Carolina and Auburn.
The meet will begin on Friday at 5 p.m. and continue on Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. Live stats will be available online here and live video can be accessed here.
