LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Tech’s duo of Maggie Tyler and Lauren Duff were named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association’s Mid-Atlantic All-Region team as announced on Thursday.
Tyler collected first-team honors while Duff was named to the third team. Tyler and Duff are joined by 17 other ACC players from four schools in the Mid-Atlantic Region.
This is the first time since 2005 Tech’s battery collected NFCA honors when catcher Megan Evans and pitcher Angela Tincher were named to the second team.
Tyler was a first-team All-ACC selection after collecting Pitcher of the Week for three consecutive weeks this season. She led the ACC with 245 strikeouts through 242.0 innings of work. The ace concluded her season ranked fourth in the nation with 10 shutouts to her name and ninth in strikeouts. She highlighted her senior season with her first career no-hitter against Boston College on March 18. The senior tossed 700 strikeouts in her career to rank third in program history with an ERA that ranks seventh all-time.
Duff, the ACC’s Freshman of the Year, leads the Hokies with a .347 average, slugging .605 with five home runs, a pair of triples, and 13 doubles. She ranked second in the league with 13 runners caught stealing for the season and is second with an .807 slugging percentage against ACC competition. Duff highlighted her rookie season with a 20-game hitting streak that ranks the second longest in Tech’s record books. Duff slugged 20 multi-base hits with a team high of 13 doubles.
Tyler and Duff are honored with 383 student-athletes from 157 programs. The awards honor softball student-athletes from the Association’s 10 regions with first, second team and selections. NFCA member coaches from each respective region voted on the teams, and all the honorees now become eligible for selection to the 2016 NFCA Division I All-American squads which will be announced on June 1.
