Tech cross country programs announce 2017 schedule
The slate features three home meets and three trips to Louisville, the site of the ACC Championships

BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech men’s and women’s cross country teams revealed the 2017 fall schedule Friday, a slate highlighted by three home invitationals at the Buford Meredith Cross Country Course in Blacksburg.
The Hokies open the season with back-to-back home meets for the third consecutive year. The Hokie Invite takes place on Friday, Sept. 1, followed by the VT Alumni Invite on Friday, Sept. 15.
Tech then will travel to Louisville, Kentucky three times over a month’s span. The Hokies will participate in the Greater Louisville Classic (Sept. 30), followed by the NCAA Pre-Nationals (Oct. 14) and then the ACC Championships (Oct. 27). The men’s team placed fourth at the 2016 ACC Cross Country Championship, while the women’s squad finished a program-best third. Andrew Gaiser, Daniel Jaskowak and Katie Kennedy all earned All-ACC honors.
The Hokies return home for their final home meet of the season – the Hokie Open – on Friday, Nov. 3.
Tech then will cap the regular season with the NCAA Southeast Regional on Friday, Nov. 10, in Charlottesville, Virginia, with hopes of earning an at-large berth to the NCAA Championships. The Tech men finished sixth at the regional in 2016, with Gaiser, Jaskowak and Brent Musselman all earning all-region honors for the first time in their careers. Katie Kennedy led the women’s team to an eighth-place finish, coming in 21st to earn all-region honors as well.
For those who qualify, the 2017 NCAA Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Championships will be held on Saturday, Nov. 18, in Louisville.
