Hokies head to Morgantown for game with Mountaineers

This week for Tech: The Hokies will play just one midweek game this week, tonight in Morgantown, West Virginia against the Mountaineers, first pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Starting Friday, Tech will welcome Miami to English Field at Union Park for a three-game ACC series that concludes on Sunday. First pitches this weekend are 6 p.m. (Friday), 3 p.m. (Saturday) and 1 p.m. (Sunday). The weekend will be highlighted by Senior Day on Sunday, as eight Hokies will be recognized pregame.

Tech versus West Virginia: This will be the 89th meeting between the two schools with the Hokies leading the all-time series at 53-34-1. However, the Mountaineers have won the last two, three of the last four and have not lost in the state of West Virginia against Tech singe April 20, 2001 - a span of six games. The Hokies last win was May 5, 2015 in Blacksburg, a 13-3 decision as Saige Jenco went 3-for-4 with six RBI and Joe Freiday, Jr. had three hits as well and scored four times. Some hot Hokies: Over the past 10 games at the plate, Sam Fragale has had six multi-hit games, including a four-hit night at Liberty last Wednesday. He leads the team with a .391 average over the span with 18 hits, including three doubles and two home runs, 11 runs scored at 10 RBI. Stevie Mangrum, though, has a team-best .677 slugging percentage in the stretch, with three home runs, and a .512 on-base percentage - drawing 10 walks as well. Michael Fernandez has also made the most of his time registering three multi-hit games and three multi-RBI games in the span

Webb named Tech Athlete of the Week: With his efforts against VMI and Liberty last week, Andrew Webb was honored with the Union Bank & Trust Virginia Tech Athlete of the Week. Webb batted .556 and tied for the team lead with three RBI, as the Hokies went 2-0 on the week. Making his first collegiate start this past Tuesday (and finding out 20 minutes before the first pitch), Webb led the Hokies with three hits and three RBI in an 8-3 victory over visiting VMI. His first RBI single in the second gave Tech a 2-1 lead (first collegiate hit and RBI) and his two-run single in the seventh sealed the game for Tech. Webb followed that with a Wednesday start at Liberty and had two hits and a run scored. The run broke a 4-4 tie in the fourth inning, and Tech would go on to beat the Flames 11-5.
