This week for Tech: The Hokies will play a pair of midweek games against Marshall. Due to a postponement from earlier in the year (March 19), the teams will play a home-and-home on back-to-back nights - before turning their attention to nationally-ranked Louisville. This will be the Cardinals first trip to Blacksburg since the 1994 season.
The home run tracker: Sam Fragale hit his third home run of the season in Tech’s 6-5 loss at Virginia on Sunday. For Fragale, it was the 26th long ball of his career - which is the third most in a career for a Hokie since the team started playing in the ACC. Andrew Rash (2010-13) has hit the most in a career since 2005 with 42, while Tyler Horan (2011-13) launched 29 in his career. Fragale is now third, breaking the tie he held with Michael Seaborn (2008-11), who had 25, while Brendon Hayden (2012-15) is fifth with 24.
Looking back: Despite the series loss to the Cavaliers last weekend, the Hokies did end a nine-game losing streak to Virginia in Charlottesville with their 5-4 victory in the night cap of the doubleheader. They had last won a game there on March 9, 2012 in 11 innings, 10-8.
Hokies versus the Thundering Herd: Virginia Tech holds a 24-9 overall mark against Marshall which includes an 18-4 record at home (6-2 at English Field at Union Park). Away from Blacksburg, though, the Hokies are just 6-5 as that trend held last year, when Tech won last year’s home game, but fell on the road. In the game at English Field at Union Park, Connor Coward tossed 6.0 scoreless innings to pick up his first win of the season, while Tom Stoffel and Joe Freiday, Jr. each had two hits and Sam Fragale knocked in a pair in the victory.
