The road ahead: Starting with tonight’s game against Dayton, the Hokies are scheduled to play 14 games over the next 19 days - which includes ACC weekend series at Virginia (April 6-8), versus Louisville (April 13-15) and concluding with at Notre Dame (April 20-22).
99 and counting: With a start today, senior Sam Fragale will start his 99th consecutive game for the Hokies, the longest current streak on the team. The next closest is Jack Owens, who has started every game he’s played for the Hokies (81 straight). Last season, Ryan Tufts finished his career by starting in the last 127 games at Tech.
Looking back: Tech took one game against No. 6 NC State in the ACC series last weekend, but in two of them turned in two fantastic pitching performances. Connor Coward was named Tech’s Athlete of the Week for his eight innings of work and no earned runs in Thursday’s win, while Ian Seymour, Andrew McDonald and Graham Seitz held the Wolfpack to just one run on seven hits in Saturday’s loss.
The 1-0 ballgame: Saturday’s 1-0 loss to NC State was just the second 1-0 ballgame ever at English Field at Union Park - the last was May 12, 2004, a win over Campbell. The last time Tech lost a home game 1-0 was April 5, 1972 against North Carolina at Tech Park.
Hokies versus the Flyers: Former Atlantic 10 foes square off for the first time since 2000. The Hokies are 13-3 overall against Dayton and a perfect 6-0 at home. After losing the first ever meeting 4-3 on April 6, 1996, Tech won the next 12 matchups before losing a series at Dayton April 22-23, 2000. Ironically, every game in the series has been played in April. CLICK HERE for the entire series game-by-game history.
