Quick Hitters
Tech in season openers: The Hokies have posted a 63-59-2 record in their previous 124 season openers. The last time a Tech season opener was played at home was in 1995, and in the 22 years since, the Hokies have recorded a 12-10 mark. In that 22-year span, Tech has opened the season in the state of South Carolina 10 times. Overall, the Hokies are 19-12 in those 10 trips to the Palmetto State that opened the season, which includes a 3-0 mark last year in Spartanburg, as they swept USC Upstate, 11-3, 9-8, and 8-2.

Playing in the Palmetto State: In its program history, Tech has played 166 games in South Carolina and has compiled a 78-85-3 (.478) overall record, including a 3-3 mark last year when the team swept USC Upstate to open the season, but lost three at Clemson during ACC play. No stranger to the tournaments run by Coastal Carolina, Tech is 13-10 combined in games in Conway and Myrtle Beach, but includes an 11-4 mark in neutral site games, just 2-6 against the Chanticleers.

Where's UCONN?: The last time Tech faced either Coastal Carolina or Oklahoma was during the 2013 NCAA Regional held in Blacksburg, Virginia, of which the University of Connecticut was the fourth team. It's been an interesting four years since the three teams were in Blacksburg, with the Chanticleers making the most of it by winning the 2016 NCAA title. Series history includes a 4-6 overall mark against Coastal Carolina, a 1-1 record against Oklahoma and a 1-0 mark versus Kansas State. Saturday's game will be the first against South Alabama.

Fragale earns a pair of preseason AA honors: Senior Sam Fragale, who was a Second Team All-ACC first baseman last season, will move over to third base for the upcoming season and has twice been named a preseason All-American at the spot. He earned third team honors by both the NCBWA and Collegiate Baseball.
