Maroon takes first game of Hokies World Series
Ian Seymour solid in his start while Cam Irvine has a game-high three RBI

BLACKSBURG – Behind a strong starting pitching performance by Ian Seymour and a nine-run fifth frame, the Maroon squad took care of Game 1 of the Virginia Tech Baseball Maroon & Orange World Series by a count of 11-3 Thursday night at English Field at Union Park.
Seymour faced the minimum over three frames, allowing just a single walk in the first inning, which was erased on the first of two double plays turned by Maroon in the contest. In all, Seymour struck out four and allowed just one ball out of the infield.
Leading 1-0 after four, Maroon sent 13 Hokies to the plate in the fifth to break open the contest. Cam Irvine had two hits in the frame and knocked in three runs, including a two-RBI single that put his team ahead 10-0. Jack Owens and Darion Jacoby each also had two hits in the game, while Jacoby scored three times. Mitchell Clarke and Brian Sisson each also knocked in a pair of runs.
For Orange, Sam Fragale had three hits including a two-RBI triple in the bottom of the fifth, but no other teammate had more than one hit. On the mound, Ryan Okuda started for Orange and went three innings, allowed an unearned run and also struck out four despite being saddled with the loss.
The Hokies return to the field for Game 2 of the World Series on Monday, October 30 with a 7:30 p.m. start. Game 3 is set for Friday, November 3 at 4:30 p.m.
