Hokies host Georgia Tech in key ACC weekend
The series now starts on Friday with a doubleheader that begins at 11 a.m.

The weekend series: The Hokies, who own a 6-3 ACC record at English Field at Union Park, will look to keep that success going this weekend when they host Georgia Tech. The series with the Yellow Jackets now starts on Friday with a doubleheader, first pitch of the first game is scheduled for an 11 a.m. start. Saturday's third game is slated for a 1 p.m start, but will be determined by the weather.

Facing the Yellow Jackets: Before joining the ACC, the two Techs played just six times starting in 1980, with the Jackets owning a 2-4 record. Since 2005, the two teams have played at least three times a season and the Jackets now hold a 29-15 edge in the series. They've won four straight and the Hokies have won just two series in their history - 2007 and 2010, both in Atlanta. In the five series played in Blacksburg, the Hokies have gone 1-2 each weekend.
Tech among the nation's leaders - individuals: There are six Hokies that are among the Top 50 (and ties) in the nation in nine statistical categories with Sam Fragale leading the charge - ranking in five. Below are those five men and where they rank in that particular category.
Tech stays in front, leads nation in home runs: The Hokies and Wake Forest have been battling back and forth recently for the nation’s lead in home runs. With its two on Tuesday night, and the Demon Deacons failing to hit one the same day, the Hokies are now in front 70-69, with Mercer sitting in third place with a total of 67 home runs. Since the Hokies joined the ACC (2005), Tech has surpassed 40 home runs hit in a season six times and 50 just four times. Within reach is the most home runs hit by a Tech team in an ACC season set by the 2010 squad with 81.
Hokies ranked in Top 25 nationally in five others: Entering the weekend, Tech is also Top 25 in five other statistical categories, which includes: 4th in Hit By Pitch (69), 7th in Slugging Percentage (.505), 19th in Double Plays (37), 22nd in Runs (278) and 23rd in Hits (396).
