BLACKSBURG Joe Freiday, Jr. notched the first career multi-home run game for the Hokies, while Virginia Tech baseball belted five total in Tuesday night’s game, but the visiting Campbell Camels hit four of their own and left English Field at Union Park a 15-8 victor.

Tech (14-13) jumped out to a 6-0 lead after two frames, with Freiday, Jr.’s first home run of the day – a three-run shot – highlighting a five-run second that also saw Jack Owens and Ryan Tufts hit back-to-back solo home runs.

However, Freiday’s second homer of the day, a solo shot in the fourth, gave Tech a 7-5 lead and from that point on, the Camels outscored Tech 10-1 the rest of the way.

Campbell (12-13) has two guys – Matthew Barefoot and Zach Minnick – each hit a pair of home runs, with Barefoot notching a game-high five RBI.

The game was also part of Military Appreciation Night, as more than 500 Virginia Tech Corps of Cadet members attended the game. The Hokies wore special Stars and Stripes batting gloves and helmet decals (that can be seen on Tufts above). CLICK HERE for a some more information on the night.
