CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Virginia Tech’s starting pitcher Packy Naughton turned in his fourth quality start of the season, but the Boston College pitching staff was just a bit better as the Eagles posted the 2-0 victory over the Hokies in ACC action on Saturday afternoon at Pellagrini Diamond.
Nick Anderson and Ryan Tufts each had a pair of hits for the Hokies, who were limited to just six hits but stranded 13 runners on base in the contest.
Justin Dunn (2-1) struck out six over 5.2 innings and allowed just three hits but surrendered four walks. Bobby Skogsbergh, 2.2 innings, and Jesse Adams, 0.2, closed the game, with Adams picking up his second save of the year.
Naughton (2-7) allowed just the two earned runs and struck out six over six full innings, while Cole Kragel tossed the final two innings scoreless with two strikeouts.
How the runs were scored
- Boston College (22-17, 8-13 ACC) got on the board in the second as the Eagles used three straight singles, the third by Mitch Bigras scored Johnny Adams, to take a 1-0 lead.
- In the fifth, the Eagles got an insurance run with Michael Strem’s RBI single that plated Jake Palomaki.
- Tech (15-29, 5-18) had several chances to push runs across the board, getting a Hokie to third base in the second, third and fifth before loading the bases in the sixth. That’s when Skogsbergh entered the game and closed the door.

- Tufts: 2 hits, 11th multi-hit game of the season, 22nd of his career.
- Naughton: quality start, fourth of the season, seventh of his career; 6.0 innings pitched, went over 100 in his Tech career (104.0); 6 strikeouts, seventh start this year with at least six Ks.
