English Field at Union Park opens with series versus Notre Dame
Busy weekend awaits fans for Tech's ACC set with Irish

The weekend series: Virginia Tech, who recently announced it’s changing the name to its home facility, to English Field at Union Park, will welcome Notre Dame to Blacksburg in a rare midseason Thursday, Friday, Saturday ACC series, which starts on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. Friday’s game is a normal 5:30 p.m. start, while Saturday’s game will begin at Noon. Thursday: ESPN3 link - At the game: To celebrate the renaming of our ballpark, we will be giving away co-branded Virginia Tech Baseball and Union Bank mini-bats to the first 300 fans!

Friday: ESPN3 link - At the game: It's '90s Night! The first 200 fans will receive VT fanny packs as we celebrate a lost decade.

Saturday: ESPN3 link - Before the game: A pregame HokieBird Easter Egg Hunt will start at 11am on the turf field across the street from Lane Stadium. At the game: It's our first Signature Saturday. Be one of the first 200 fans in and get the first set of trading cards, and get them signed by the VT baseball players after the game.

History versus the Fighting Irish: There is not a rich tradition to the Tech-Notre Dame rivalry in baseball, even since the Fighting Irish joined the ACC back in 2014. This will be just the second ACC series for the two teams, who also played four series when the two teams were in the BIG EAST. This will be the first time Notre Dame will play baseball in Blacksburg since 2003 (see more on page 5). Notre Dame leads the series 9-8, but Tech is 3-2 all-time at home.

Anderson, Hokies enjoying English Field at Union Park: Nick Anderson currently leads the Hokies with a .371 average, a .571 slugging percentage and a .488 on-base percentage in home games. His four doubles, 13 RBIs and 20 total bases are second on the team in games in Blacksburg. However, he’s not the only one enjoying the friendly confines, as six Hokies overall have a .300 or better average at home, which includes Saige Jenco and Matt Dauby, who are 1-2 when it comes to scoring runs at home with 15 and 12 respectively.
On the mound, keep an eye on Packy Naughton, who leads the team with a 2.92 ERA at games played this season at English Field at Union Park. He’s a perfect 2-0 in two starts and has struck out 10 in 12.1 innings. Out of the bullpen, only Joey Sullivan (6IP/3.00), Connor Coward (8.0/3.38) and Ryan Lauria (10.1/3.48) have an ERA under 3.50 with at least six innings pitched.

Jenco feasting on ACC pitching: Speaking of , through six ACC games, he is batting .462, has a .500 slugging percentage and a .517 on-base percentage in those games, which leads the team. His 12 hits are five more than Ryan Tufts (.318/.409/.444 - all second on the team), his seven runs are two more than Tufts and his five RBIs are actually third behind Anderson (7) and Phil Sciretta (6).
Jenco is also listed in the overall ACC active career numbers in several categories - third in average (.327), fourth in on-base percentage (.430), second in stolen bases (35), fourth in SB percentage (.795) and second in hits per game (min. 100 games) at 1.29, trailing only NC State’s Andrew Knizner (1.30).
