The weekend series: Tech will travel across the state to take part in the Old Dominion Baseball Tournament being held on the Monarch’s campus. The Hokies will open with Delaware on Friday at Noon, play the hosts on Saturday at 4 p.m., then conclude the weekend with a game against Manhattan on Sunday with an 11 a.m. first pitch.

Tech versus the field: The Hokies have posted a combined 65-21 record against their three opponents this weekend. Below is a quick glance at each series’ history.
DELAWARE - Tech leads 7-4 overall and has won four straight. Ten of the meetings have been in Blacksburg, the other Feb. 15, 2014 in Charleston, S.C., an 8-1 Hokie win.
OLD DOMINION - Tech leads 58-17 overall, but the two teams have met just once - Feb. 16, 2007 in Myrtle Beach, S.C., a 10-3 Hokie win - since 2002. From 1967 until 2002, the two teams met at least once every year except in 1985, 1995 and 1997. In Norfolk, Tech leads the series 26-10, but lost both games their last trip there in the 2000 season (3-2 and 15-3).
MANHATTAN - This will be the first ever meeting between the two schools. The Jaspers are a member of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference and Tech owns a 9-5 record against schools from that league - Canisius (1-0), Marist (3-0), Niagara (3-1) and Rider (2-4).

Pitching staff shuts out back-to-back opponents: Tech has already posted two shutouts this season, tying last year’s entire output. Also, with the back-to-back shutouts, it marked the first time since May 2012, that the Hokies did that when they beat NC A&T (6-0) and VMI (18-0).
In all, the staff has tossed a combined 19 consecutive scoreless innings, the longest streak that includes back-to-back shutouts since 2011, when Tech had 27 straight scoreless frames in a four-game series against Bryant (March 4-5) at English Field - the longest streak for the team since joining the ACC. In those past dozen years, Tech has notched back-to-back shutouts just six times, including three times during the 2010 season. The other five times were all at home.

Sciretta swinging a hot bat: Just four games into the 2016 season and senior Phil Sciretta has established himself as one of the leaders at the plate for Tech. He has recorded an RBI in every game this season and has three multi-hit games - as many as he had all of 2015. Sciretta enters the weekend with a team-high .444 average, eight hits, nine total bases and an on-base percentage of .500, while he’s second with four RBIs. He has also stepped into the starting first baseman’s role and only starting there three times in his career (2014) and has just one error (throwing).
