RICHMOND, Va. – For the first time in 13 years, a Virginia Tech baseball game ended in a tie, as the Hokies and Richmond Spiders battled back-and-forth to a 10-10 draw in 10 innings on Tuesday afternoon in nonconference action at Pitt Field.

The game was called due to darkness as the ballpark does not have lights.

Virginia Tech (6-7-1) was led by Sean Keselica, who had three hits, five RBIs and collected his 100th career hit as a Hokie. Mark Zagunis had a four-hit day for Tech, with two runs and two RBIs, Alex Perez scored three times and Brendon Hayden also had two hits, a double and triple, scored twice and drove in two.

Richmond (4-9-1) used the long ball to score six of its runs, as Tanner Stanley and Kurtis Brown each hit a three-run home run for the Spiders. Stanley also scored three runs, while Doug Kraeger added two RBIs.

Of the 12 pitchers used by both teams, the only pitcher to throw an inning or more and not allow a run was Tech’s Sean Kennedy, who went 1.1 innings and allowed just one hit. Jon Woodcock struck out four in his 2.1 innings.

The Hokies had not registered a tie on their slate since April 14, 2001 when they played at Carroll Field in South Orange, N.J. After 12 innings in that contest, the game with Seton Hall finished in a 7-7 tie..

The Hokies continue a busy slate as they will welcome both VCU and Pittsburgh to English Field the rest of the week. They will face the Rams on Wednesday at 1 p.m. (please note, a time change due to impending weather) and the ACC newcomer Panthers, for the Hokies’ ACC home-opening series, this upcoming weekend, which starts at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
