GREENSBORO, N.C. – In a vote conducted by the league’s 12 coaches and announced by the ACC on Monday, juniors Tyler Horan and Chad Pinder have been named to the 2013 All-ACC Baseball First Team.

It marks the first time that Tech has had two players honored with first team selections by the ACC, as the Hokies have had just two players prior to this year be named first team – Austin Wates in 2010 and Andrew Rash in 2011.

In 2010, when the Hokies made their last trip to the ACC Baseball Championship, the team had four men honored, the most in a single year. This year marks the second highest total for the squad.

Horan was one of three outfielders named to the first team and put up impressive numbers overall and in the league. In games overall, he was 13th in the league in batting average (.344), led the conference in doubles (22), was second in total bases (140), third in slugging (.625), fourth in hits (77), home runs (11) and tied for fourth in triples (4) and 10th in RBI (50).

In conference-only games, his .347 batting average was the ninth-best in the league, while he was second in runs (31) and tied for second in doubles (12), fourth in hits (42), tied for third in triples (3), tied for fifth in total bases (69) and eighth in slugging (.570).

Pinder was named the top third baseman by the coaches and posted a .322 batting average during the regular season – good for 24th-best in the league overall. His numbers also include 44 runs, 67 hits – 12 doubles, one triple, four home runs – 40 RBI and 93 total bases for a .447 slugging percentage and has a .408 on-base percentage.

Tech, who secured its best Coastal Division record as a member of the ACC with a two-game sweep of Wake Forest last week, finished third in the division with a 15-14 mark and earned the No. 6 seed in the upcoming ACC Baseball Championship, which will be played at Durham Bulls Park in Durham, N.C.
