CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College used a four-run eighth inning to erase a 2-1 deficit and notch a 5-3 victory on Sunday afternoon at Pellagrini Diamond and avoided No. 25 Virginia Tech earning an ACC weekend sweep on their home field.

The Hokies (30-19, 13-14 ACC) had taken the one-run lead in the fifth frame after answering Boston College’s lone run scored before the eighth - of any of the three games.

Tyler Horan hit a lead-off double and Andrew Rash singled to put runners on the corners with no outs. Brendon Hayden plated Horan with a bunt and Chad Morgan drove in Rash with a single and it was 2-1 Tech.

Brad Markey threw seven innings for the Hokies and allowed just the one run on five hits. He walked two and struck out five to push the Tech starting pitchers' numbers for the weekend to 21 innings pitched, one run allowed on nine hits with 17 strikeouts.

Boston College (11-37, 3-23 ACC) used a Matt Pare solo home run to tie the game at 2-2 which was followed by an RBI single by Jimmy Dowdell and a two-run double by Gabriel Hernandez.

The Hokies battled back in the ninth, with Horan hitting another double and scoring on a two-out Hayden RBI single. Morgan followed with his third hit of the day, putting the tying run on first, but the Eagles’ John Gorman got a grounder to end the game.

Jeff Burke picked up the win in relief and is now 1-1, while Gorman saved his second game. Clark Labitan suffered the loss and dropped his record to 0-5.

Tech will take a couple days off before returning to English Field for a midweek game with High Point on Wednesday, with a start time of 5:30 p.m.
