CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – No. 25 Virginia Tech used three Ryan Burns RBI, which including a two-RBI double in the fifth, to help lift the team to a 7-5 victory over Boston College on Saturday afternoon at Pellagrini Diamond. With the win, the Hokies secure the series win, their first ever at Boston College.

A number of streaks also continued for the Hokies, who now stand at 30-18 on the year, 13-13 in conference play. They include: the fifth straight win of the season (one shy of the season-long), the sixth straight win versus the Eagles, the sixth straight victory on the road (longest in a decade), the fourth straight win in the ACC (second time this year) and the fourth straight conference road victory (first time in the league).

By claiming the series, it marks three straight ACC series wins by the Hokies for only the third time as a member of the league. The only other two times Tech had won three ACC series in a row was during the 2010 season.

To get the win, Tech jumped out to a 7-0 lead through five frames, scoring runs in the second, third, fourth and fifth innings. Chad Morgan and Burns knocked in one each in the second, scoring Tyler Horan and Brendon Hayden, and then Mark Zagunis tacked on an unearned run in the third.

In the fifth, Matt Dauby scored on a double by Alex Perez and Burns capped a three-run fifth with a two-RBI double that brought in Andrew Rash and Morgan. Zagunis had scored earlier on another error, his 50th run of the year.

Meanwhile, Tech starter Devin Burke was cruising. He did not allow a hit until the first batter in the sixth and, at one point, retired 12 straight Boston College batters. He allowed just one Eagle to touch second before his day was done after seven scoreless frames.

Sean Kennedy pitched a perfect eighth before the Eagles rallied in the ninth with five runs. Jake Joyce was then called in and got the final out to pick up his third save of the season. Burke improved to 8-3 with the win.

Burke becomes just the third Hokie starter to earn wins in three straight ACC series, joining Joe Parsons (2011) and Justin Wright (2009), who actually won four straight. He also joins Wright as the only men since Joe Saunders (2002) to win eight games in a single season and joins Wright (2009) and Mathew Price (2010) to win five ACC games in a single season.

The two teams will play the final game of the three-game set on Sunday with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.

Additional Notes: Tech has 13 road wins this year, one shy of matching the 2011 team that won 14 and its eight road wins in the ACC are tied for the most with the 2011 squad. Only five before had the Hokies won three straight road games, one other time this year, two times in 2011 and once in 2010 and 2009. The last time Tech won six (or more) games in a row on the road was during the 2003 season - the Hokies won eight (March 1 through March 26). The last time the Hokies won four straight on the road in conference play was during the 2002 season, when they won a game at St. John's before sweeping a three-game series at Georgetown.
