GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia Tech outfielder Andrew Rash has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Baseball Player of the Week, while Maryland senior Jimmy Reed earned ACC Pitcher of the Week honors.

Rash was the catalyst for the Hokies’ offense last week, which was highlighted by a series win over No. 5 Virginia. The Anderson, S.C., senior led Virginia Tech with a .533 average for the week (.545 in the Virginia series), with three multi-hit games, while slugging 1.067.

He drove in a team-high eight runs during the week, including a two-run homer in the Hokies’ series-clinching 11-6 win in game 2 of Saturday’s doubleheader. Rash also scored three runs in the game. He scored the go-ahead run in the first game of a 5-3 win on Saturday after leading off the sixth with a single.

With Virginia Tech trailing 4-3 in a midweek game at VMI, Rash hit a two-out, two-RBI double in the sixth inning. With the score tied at 5-5 in the eighth, he smacked a two-run triple to provide the game-winning RBI.

Rash now becomes the first field player to be named ACC Player of the Week twice, as he also earned the honor back on April 25, 2011. He joins Justin Wright, who was named ACC Pitcher of the Week three times, as the only two Hokies with multiple ACC honors.

Back on February 18, Chad Pinder was named the player of the week, which now gives the Hokies a pair of field winners for only the second time as well, as Austin Wates (April 5) and Steve Domecus (May 17) were both honored during the 2010 season. It's only the seventh time a Hokie has been named ACC Player of the Week.

Reed turned in a career performance in a 1-0 victory at Duke last Friday, April 26. The left-hander pitched his first career complete game shutout in a 1-0 win while outdueling Duke ace Trent Swart. The victory set up Maryland’s series win over the Blue Devils.

The Gaithersburg, Md., native was extremely efficient, throwing 69 of his 98 pitches for strikes and did not allow more than one hit in an inning. Only one Duke batter advanced past second base, and that came on a failed pickoff attempt at first base. It was the second complete game of the season for Reed, who went eight innings at NC State on March 29.

He also pitched nine shutout innings against Miami on April 12, in a game that went 13 innings. Reed lowered his ERA from 2.70 to 2.36 and is now one of five ACC pitchers to throw two complete games in conference action.
