BLACKSBURG – Devin Burke held No. 1 North Carolina scoreless through five frames, but Virginia Tech could not muster any offense and the Tar Heels registered a 3-0 victory on Sunday afternoon at English Field to take the final game of the three-game ACC series.

Burke lasted 6.2 frames and allowed three runs on six hits with a pair of strikeouts. He did walk six batters, but only one of them came around to score.

UNC (34-2, 15-2 ACC) broke through against Burke with a single run in the sixth on a two-out RBI single by Parks Jordan. The Tar Heels added a pair in the seventh on back-to-back singles by Colin Moran and Brian Holberton.

Clark Labitan threw the final 2.1 innings scoreless for the Hokies and surrendered just one hit and struck out one.

Tech (22-15, 7-11 ACC) had its chances to score, leaving two men on base in both the first, second frames and sixth frames.

Hobbs Johnson went six innings for UNC and allowed just two Hokie hits, but also walked six batters – Chad Pinder and Alex Perez three times each.

Chad Morgan, the only Tech player with two hits, led off the ninth with a double off UNC reliever Trevor Kelley, the only hit he allowed in 2.1 innings. But Tate Parrish came in to close the game out to pick up his second save of the season. Johnson won his first decision of the year while Burke fell to 5-3.

Tech will next be in action on Tuesday night when travelling to Greeneville, Tenn., to face Tennessee in the renewal of the Hokie-Smokey Classic. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Pioneer Park.
