BLACKSBURG - Another strong pitching performance, this time by Devin Burke, helped No. 25 Virginia Tech win its third straight game with a 5-3 victory on Monday afternoon against the Delaware Blue Hens in nonconference action at English Field.

The Hokies got on the board in the third on a two-out RBI single from Andrew Rash, which scored Kyle Wernicki. He then came around to cross the plate on an infield single by Tyler Horan.

Delaware (3-3) scored three runs in the fifth to take the lead, two of which were unearned after two Hokie errors.

Tech responded with three of its own in the bottom half of the frame, with an RBI double from Chad Morgan, who was 2 for 2 on the day, and a pair of two-out RBI singles by Horan and Chad Pinder.

Burke, who improved to 2-0, pitched into the eighth inning. He allowed just one earned run on six hits, while walking one and striking out two. In the eighth, he got a double play thanks to a quick handed Brendon Hayden, who snagged a liner at first base and touched first, as Burke was in jam with runners on first and second with no outs.

Clark Labitan then got the final out of the inning with a strikeout and worked a perfect ninth to pick up his third save of the year.

Tech (7-1) will take a day off before returning to English Field to face Radford at 3 p.m.
