ATLANTA, Ga. – Georgia Tech used a pair of four-run innings to get itself going, then add insurance to its lead and claimed a 9-1 victory over Virginia Tech in the final game of the three-game ACC series on Sunday at Russ Chandler Stadium.

With the win, Georgia Tech took the series and improved to 14-6 overall, 3-3 in league play, while the Hokies fell to 15-6 and 2-4 in the ACC.

The Yellow Jackets wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, plating four runs in the bottom of the first inning thanks to three straight singles – the third by Zane Evans brought home the first run – and a three-run home run by Daniel Palka.

The Hokies answered back with a single run in the second inning with back-to-back singles by Chad Pinder and Andrew Rash, which was followed by an RBI double from Alex Perez cutting their deficit to 4-1.

Kyle Wren pushed the Georgia Tech lead back to four with a solo home run in the fourth and the Yellow Jackets doubled their lead with four in the seventh to take a 9-1 lead.

Luke Bard won his first game of the year for the Yellow Jackets, while Marc Zecchino took the loss and dropped to 2-2 this season.

Tech will take a day off before returning to action with a five-game homestand at English Field. The Hokies welcome Cornell for two games – Tuesday and Wednesday, both start at 5:30 p.m. – before playing their first ACC home series of the year against Duke next weekend.
