BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech women’s tennis team wrapped up the 2015 Hokie Fall Invite on Sunday with a win in doubles to claim the Maroon Flight title.
Caroline Daxhelet and Sansitha Nandakumar paired up in the flight finals for a 6-1 win over Penn State’s Samantha Tutelman and Taylor Shukow.
In singles, Kelly Williford picked up a win, defeating Towson’s Lucy Williams 6-3, 7-5 in the Honor Flight to finish third.
Nandakumar also had a good day in singles. In the Sacrifice Flight, Nandakumar took third place after knocking off JMU’s Rebecca Harris. Nandakumar fell 2-6 in the opening set, but rallied to take the next two, 6-1, 10-3.
Katherine Butler secured a third place finish in the Leadership Flight. Butler won the opening set 7-5, but faltered in the second to VCU’s Magda Aubet 6-3. In the tiebreaker, Butler came back strong to win it, 10-4.
The Hokies will be back in action at the ITA All-American Championships, Oct. 3-10 in Malibu, California. Representing Tech at the event are Ilinca Stoica, Francesca Fusinato, Elena Cerezo-Codina and Daxhelet.
