BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech women’s tennis team is set to open the 2014 Fall Season at UNC Wilmington’s Beach Blast tournament this Friday, September 12 through Sunday, September 14 in Wilmington, North Carolina.

The Hokies will send seven representatives to the tournament, including returning sophomore Sansitha Nandakumar, who boasted a 6-1 record at the No. 5 spot as a freshman last year, including a victory over a ranked opponent. Also making the trip for the Hokies is Kelly Williford, who went 6-6 last season at the No. 3 spot while also notching a victory over a ranked opponent.

Three freshmen (Sloan Barton, Katherine Butler, Elena Cerezo-Codina) will be making their collegiate debuts at Beach Blast. Juniors Frances Peyton and Mariana Silva round out the seven Hokies in action this weekend.

Last season, the Hokies made it to the second round of the ACC Tournament for the second year in a row, while racking up four victories over ranked opponents along the way. The team hopes to replicate a successful start to the 2013 season where they won seven of their first nine matches, falling only to top-28 competition.

Saturday, Sept. 13, 2014: Georgia Vs. Virginia Tech doubles, 9 a.m.; UNCW Vs. East Carolina doubles, 9 a.m.; Virginia Tech Vs. UNCW singles, 10 a.m.; Georgia Vs. East Carolina doubles, 10 a.m.; UNCW Vs. Virginia Tech doubles, 2 p.m.; Georgia Vs. East Carolina singles, 2 p.m.

Sunday, Sept. 14, 2014: Georgia Vs. UNCW singles, 9 a.m.; East Carolina Vs. Virginia Tech singles, 9 a.m.
