BLACKSBURG, Va. — The 52nd-ranked Virginia Tech women’s tennis team improved to 6-2 on the year with a 7-0 win over Morgan State on Saturday evening in the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.

Tech dominated in doubles to score the point in less than 30 minutes of play. The No. 3 pair of Laura Ramthun and Mariana Silva kicked things off with a 6-1 win over Jasmine Edwards and Tiffany Hughes.

Ilinca Stoica and Kelly Williford finished immediately after the No. 3 pair to clinch the doubles point for Tech. They defeated Arina Alilueva and Margarita Belyakova 6-0 in the No. 1 slot. Tea Ivanovic and Isel Martinez-Marcos were leading Cierra Plummer and Chelsi Russell 5-0 when the point was decided, so the match was left unfinished.

Rebecca Harris wasted no time adding to the Tech lead as she defeated Hughes 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 and put the Hokies up 2-0. Martinez-Marcos also shut out her opponent with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Alilueva at No. 2.

Carol Kahoun clinched the match for the Hokies as she topped Edwards 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4.

Raluca Mita was quick to add Tech’s fifth point with her 6-1, 6-2 defeat of Russell at No. 3. Sansitha Nandakumar scored for the Hokies with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Plummer at No. 5.

Francesca Fusinato rounded out Tech’s effort with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Belyakova at No. 1.
