BLACKSBURG, Va. -- The Virginia Tech women’s tennis team defeated Liberty 6-1 Sunday evening in the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.

Tech grabbed the doubles point to start off the second match of the day for the women. Ilinca Stoica and Kelly Williford defeated Alexandra Sheeran and Rebekah Jenkins 8-0 at No. 1.

Liberty evened the doubles matches as Valerie Thong and Cameron Richard defeated Megan Conley and Mariana Silva 8-4 at No. 3.

The Hokies claimed the point when Carol Kahoun and Raluca Mita topped Alexandra Sheeran and Rebekah Jenkins 8-4 at No. 2.

Kelly Williford was dominant at No. 3 as she defeated Alexandra Sheeran 6-0, 6-0. Raluca Mita extended the Tech lead to 3-0 with her 6-2, 6-0 at No. 4 over Brittany Yang.

Isel Martinez-Marcos clinched the win for the Hokies with her 6-2, 6-4 defeat of Rebekah Jenkins at No. 2

Tea Ivanovic retired due to injury at No. 5 to give Nicola Wellman of Liberty the 6-3, 1-4 (Ret.) win and Liberty’s first point of the day.

Emily Lauten got things back on track for the Hokies, though with a 7-5, 6-1 win over Annisha Domenech at No. 6.

Play was rounded out as Ilinca Stoica defeated Cameron Richards 2-6, 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1.

The Hokies are back in action February 16 as they travel to Boston College.
