BLACKSBURG, Va. -- The Virginia Tech women’s tennis team rolled to a 7-0 victory over Davidson Sunday morning in the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center as the Hokies opened the 2013 season.

The Hokies kicked things off with a sweep of the doubles matches. At No. 1, Ilinca Stoica and Kelly Williford cruised to an 8-1 victory against Brites Moniz-Soares and Eliana Cummer of Davidson.

Tech clinched the doubles point when Tea Ivanovic and Emily Lauten won the No. 3 match, 8-4, over Catherine Wood and Frizzi Brschoro. Isel Martinez-Marcos and Mariana Silva completed the sweep with an 8-6 victory against Stephanie Synn and Nisha Crouser in the No. 2 slot.

Tech continued its strong play as singles action began with Isel Martinez-Marcos, Raluca Mita, Kelly Williford, Tea Ivanovic and Emily Lauten winning their first sets. Mita was the first to score a singles point for the Hokies as she cruised to a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Elaina Cummer in the No. 2 slot.

Martinez-Marcos followed suit with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Brites Moniz-Soares at No. 1, and Ivanovic clinched the match for Tech as she won 6-0, 6-4 against Catherine Wood at No. 5.

Lauten was dominant in the No. 6 spot as she won 6-3, 6-0 over Elise Held. Williford picked up a victory in her 2013 debut with a 6-3, 6-3 win against Stephanie Synn at No. 3. Carol Kahoun rallied after dropping the first set 3-6 to claim the second set 6-1. She completed the Hokie sweep with a 12-10 victory over Nisha Crouser in a third set tiebreaker.

The Hokies return to action Sunday, Jan. 20 at 3 p.m., as they take on the Naval Academy in the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.
