Get to know our newest Hokie - Karlie Johnson

BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech women’s soccer program is unveiling its 2018 signing class in a new way. Rather than releasing them all in one story, the Hokies will announce a new signee each week in a “Get to Know” format until all of the incoming freshmen have been announced.

The next player to be featured is Karlie Johnson, a 5-foot-9 forward from Keller, Texas. She currently attends Keller High School and will look to pursue a degree in human nutrition, foods and exercise at Tech. She plays for coach Billy Griffiths and has earned four varsity letters, while earning a first team all-district honor last season and helping her team to the Class 6A state semifinals in 2017.

Johnson’s club experience includes playing for FC Dallas for over seven years, coached by Ben Waldrum. She’s also been on the ODP team for two seasons and was named to an all-star team in Norman, Oklahoma.

“Karlie’s a real dangerous, athletic forward, who has good size and good speed,” Tech head women’s soccer coach Charles “Chugger” Adair said. “She comes out of the FC Dallas Club, which is a really good club and well respected. She’s got the ability to change a game with her pace and an ability to test the back line. She’s good going forward and going to goal. I think she can be a consistent danger up front for us. We’re looking forward to seeing how she can impact our team offensively.”
