Hokies place two on All-ACC Academic Women's Soccer Team

Johnson, McGlynn each named for the first time in their careers

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Senior Alani Johnson and sophomore Mandy McGlynn were both named to the All-ACC Academic Women’s Soccer Team, following their work in the classroom and on the field at Virginia Tech, as announced by the league office Thursday afternoon as each picked up the academic award for the first time.

Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career for undergraduate students. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team. CLICK HERE to see the ACC full release.

Johnson, a human nutrition, foods and exercise major, capped her final season in Blacksburg by leading Tech in goals (4) and points (8), while also posting the most shots (44-T) and shots on goal (20) during the year. The Virginia Beach, Virginia, native also led the team with three game-winning goals, which gave her seven in her career. She finished her Hokie career with 24 goals, three assists and 51 points.

McGlynn, also a human nutrition, foods and exercise major, started all 18 games in goal for Tech and posted a 7-6-5 record during the 2017 campaign with seven shutouts, tying for the second-most ever in a single season at the school. In her two seasons with the Hokies, the Jacksonville, Florida, has started all 34 matches she’s played and posted an 18-10-6 overall mark with 130 saves, a .769 save percentage and a 1.095 goals allowed average.

The 2017 All-ACC Academic Women’s Soccer Team had 50 honorees, with all 13 institutions represented. The ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be released in July.
