BLACKSBURG, Va. – Virginia Tech and Syracuse battled to a 0-0 draw in ACC women’s soccer action on Thursday night at Thompson Field. Tech finishes the regular season 7-6-5 overall and 1-5-4 in conference play, while the Orange wrap up the regular season 7-8-3 overall and 2-6-2 in ACC action.

Tech came out aggressively to open the match. The Hokies took an 18-3 advantage in shots into the intermission. For the match, Tech out shot the Orange, 32-7 and held a 14-3 advantage in shots on goal.

Both team had chances throughout the contest, but could not find the back of the net. Officials did have to go to the video monitor on a shot from Kallie Peurifoy late in regulation, but their ruling of no goal was confirmed and regulation ended in a draw, with the same decision after both 10 minute overtime periods.

Tech goalie Mandy McGlynn recorded three saves on the evening, while Courtney Brosnan record 14 saves in the net for the Orange. Tech held a 16-3 advantage in corner kicks.

NOTES

Tonight was the Hokies’ seventh overtime match of the season, the most for Tech since they joined the ACC in the 2004 season.

Tech’s 32 shots were a season-high. The previous high this season was 23 shots in a 1-1 double overtime draw at Pittsburgh on Sept. 21.

Mandy McGlynn has 130 career saves, sixth-best in Virginia Tech history.

This was the final regular season match for the Hokies.

“We created a lot of chances. We didn’t take advantage of our chances. It’s kid of been a synopsis of the season. IT’s a frustration for us.

“We had a ton of chances. Their keeper made some really good saves to keep them in the game, for sure. She played well and they defended well. I thought Syracuse fought hard and we weren’t good enough around the goal tonight.”

“We needed to be aggressive, we needed to take the game and take the tempo of the game. I think we did a good job of that. We just didn’t stick a chance away.”
