Hokies travel to South Bend to face Fighting Irish

The Virginia Tech women’s soccer team will travel to South Bend, Indiana on Saturday to take on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Game time is 7 p.m. and the match will be streamed live on ACC Network Extra.

The Hokies will wrap up the road portion of the regular season with the match. Tech enters the game 6-4-4 overall and 0-3-3 in conference play. The Hokies are led by Chugger Adair, in his seventh season as the head coach at Virginia Tech.

The Hokies are 2-3-1 all-time against the Fighting Irish. The two teams battled to scoreless draw last season at Thompson Field. Tech is 2-2-1 against the Irish under Adair.

Tech is led by forward Alani Johnson. The senior from Virginia Beach, Virginia leads the team with four goals and has three game-winning goals this season. Goalkeeper Mandy McGlynn leads the Tech defense. The sophomore from Jacksonville, Florida was the ACC Defensive Player of the Week last week and has recorded 61 saves so far this year.

Notre Dame is 7-4-3 overall and 3-2-1 in ACC action. Notre Dame is led by Natalie Jacobs with nine goals and Sandra Yu with seven goals. Goalkeeper Brooke Litman has 31 saves and four shutouts this season. The Irish are coached by Theresa Romagnolo, in her fourth season in South Bend.

The Hokies will return to Thompson Field for the final three matches of the regular season. The next home game is Thursday, Oct. 19, as the Hokies take on nationally-ranked North Carolina at 7 p.m. The match will be streamed live on ACC Network Extra.
