Second half push propels Hokies over ETSU, 3-1
Two Hokies tally first goals on the season

The Virginia Tech women’s soccer team defeated ETSU, 3-1, Thursday night at Summers-Taylor Stadium. With the win, the Hokies improve to 6-0-1 overall, while the Bucs fall to 2-4.
The Hokies fell behind midway through the first half as keeper Mandy McGlynn lost control of a save that was rebounded by the Bucs’ Cathy Rees, who put it in the back of the net in the 38th minute.
Tech quickly responded with a goal from Bridget Patch, her first of the season, several minutes later in the 41st. Both teams headed into their locker rooms at the break with the score tied 1-1.
Tech carried the momentum into the second half, resulting in a pair of unanswered goals. One came from sophomore Mikayla Mance in 67th minute and the other from Leesburg, Virginia native Allyson Brown in the 74th minute as the assist came from Mance.
Tech outshot the Bucs 17-7, while also holding the advantage in corner kicks, 6-4. McGlynn tallied five saves on the night and her goalkeeping reading improves to 6-0-1.
NOTES
Patch’s first half goal was the second in her young career. It marked her first time scoring since Sept. 9, 2016 against Indiana.
Mance’s second half goal was the first of her career. Brown now has two goals in her freshman season.
Nine Hokies have scored the team’s 12 goals this season.
The Hokies return to action Sunday night, as they take on Tennessee in Knoxville. Game time is at 6 p.m. and will be televised nationally on ESPNU.

“I’m happy with the win. I thought the girls did a good job coming back after giving up the first goal. I thought we deserved some chances that we didn’t get. We created a lot of chances and I was happy we got three goals to close the game out.”
