Kallie Peurifoy scores late goal for Tech win

BLACKSBURG, Va. – Virginia Tech defeated William & Mary, 1-0, in women’s soccer action Thursday night at Thompson Field. The Hokies improve to 4-0-1 overall, while the Tribe falls to 4-1.

The match remained even throughout the first 85 minutes, despite Tech holding a large lead in shots. Then, with 5:06 remaining in regulation, the Tribe’s Alex Kuhnle was hit with a yellow card just outside the box, resulting in a free kick for the Hokies. Redshirt senior Kallie Peurifoy found the back of the net in the upper left corner on the kick to give Tech a 1-0 lead. Tech fought off several late charges by William & Mary to preserve the victory.

Tech held a decisive lead in most offensive categories, including a whopping 17-2 advantage in shots and 7-1 in shots on goal. Mandy McGlynn stopped the only shot on goal she faced for a save.

NOTES

The Hokies return to action on Monday night, as they close out this four-game home stand against Longwood at 7 p.m. at Thompson Field.

The Hokies improve to 3-5 all-time against the Tribe.

Peurifoy’s goal is the eight of the year by the Hokies. Seven different Hokies have accounted for the four goals.
