Alani Johnson’s goal in the 18th minute proved to be the difference between the two sides. Madi Conyers cut into the box and fired a shot that was initially saved until Johnson followed up and stuck it in the back of the net.
The Hokies came out firing second half, with five of the Hokies' eight shots coming in the second frame as well as all four of the team’s corners.
Mandy McGlynn kept a clean sheet for the third time this season making four saves. UGA's Louise Hogrell also tallied four saves.
Tech returns to Thompson Field on Thursday Aug. 31 at 7 p.m. to take on the William & Mary Tribe.
QUOTING CHUGGER ADAIR
“Overall I’m pleased with the game. I think the result is what most matters and we ground out a win against a very difficult team to play. They are big, strong, physically athletic team that puts you under pressure and we were able to deal with that.”
“When we possessed the ball and got a little bit of a tempo going forward, I think that’s where we’re at our best. We had bits and pieces of that where we did a good job.”
“I think we dealt with their pressure; they served a lot of balls in the box and we defended well. We bent a little bit, but we didn’t break and we were able to get that all important shutout.”
