BLACKSBURG – Rising sophomore Mandy McGlynn of the Virginia Tech women’s soccer team will travel to the Czech Republic from June 5-14 with the United States Under-19 Women’s National Team (WNT).
This journey marks the first trip abroad this year and will feature two international matches. The U.S. U-19 WNT squad will take on the full Czech Republic Women’s National Team, which ranks No. 36 in the world, on Saturday, June 10, followed by a match against the Czech Republic U-19 WNT on Tuesday, June 13. Both matches will be played at Stadium Admira in Slavoj Kobylisy in the northern part of Prague.
A native of Jacksonville, Florida, McGlynn is one of two goalkeepers and is one of seven collegiate players on the 20-women roster. The upcoming camp will mark McGlynn’s fifth national call this year. She most recently trained with the U-20 squad in Carson, California, where she played against Japan’s U-20 teams twice. She also traveled to Belfast, Ireland, for a trio of friendlies with the U-18 WNT last October.
McGlynn started in 16 of the team’s 19 matches for Tech in 2016. She finished with 58 saves and held a 1.17 goals-against average. McGlynn also logged six shutouts on the year and recorded an 11-4-1 overall mark in her first season as a Hokie.
