Anderson sets to compete under coach Adair this fall

First-team all-conference honoree Alexa Anderson will join the Hokies for the 2017-18 season

BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech women’s soccer coach Charles “Chugger” Adair announced Tuesday that Alexa Anderson (Alexandria, Virginia) will join the Hokies as a walk-on for the 2017-18 season.

“We are excited to announce Alexa’s signing,” Adair said. “She will be a perfect addition to our team. Alexa is a strong, technical and disciplined midfield player. She is versatile and capable to play many different positions for us. Through the recruiting process, we have seen Alexa grow and continue to push herself. We look forward to seeing that work pay off here at Virginia Tech.”

A multi-position player at Falls Church High, Anderson earned four varsity letters under coach Jim Clarke and received first-team all-conference honors three years in a row. She also was a member of the Braddock Road Elite ’98 team for 10 years and was a six-time state cup finalist.

Additionally, Anderson competed on both the girls’ basketball and swimming and diving teams for one season, earning one varsity letter each from both squads.

“After spending time on campus with the coaching staff and the team, I realized that Virginia Tech offers everything that I was searching for in a college,” Anderson said. “Being a part of a quality soccer program, while attending a great academic school, is the best of both worlds, and Virginia Tech gives me just that.”

The daughter of Matthew and Deborah, she will enroll in psychology with the hopes of becoming a sports psychiatrist or psychology teacher.
