BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech women’s soccer coach Charles “Chugger” Adair announced Thursday that Caroline Cipolla (Richmond, Virginia) will join the Hokies as a walk-on for the 2017-18 season.
“I am excited to announce Caroline as a new member of the Virginia Tech women’s soccer family,” Adair said. “Caroline is an energetic, charismatic person who will be a great addition to the team and culture. Caroline also has equally strong traits on the field. She is athletic, full of pace and is a high energy, tenacious player. Caroline is expected to add strength and athleticism to the back line as well as the flanks. We can’t wait to have Caroline on campus.”
A senior defender at Mills E. Godwin High, Cipolla has netted all-conference, all-region and all-metro honors throughout her high school career. She also led the Eagles to their first-ever 5A state crown her junior year, garnering defensive MVP team honors.
Additionally, Cipolla was a member of the Richmond United ECNL for three years, where she was named the U-18 team captain. Her U-16 team also won the Mid-Atlantic Conference as well as the Chesapeake Division, advancing to the National ECNL Championship game in Seattle. She previously competed for the Richmond Kickers U-14 and U-15 teams and was a two-time state cup semifinalist.
Of note, Cipolla also participated in gymnastics for over 10 years, achieving the highest junior Olympic level. As a gymnast, she was named a state champion in both the vault and floor events.
Academically, she is an AP scholar student and is a current member of the National Honor Society, the English Honor Society and the Math Honor Society.
“Virginia Tech is a great university with great academic programs,” Cipolla said. “It has an impressive soccer program with excellent coaches and a history of success. Every time I step on campus it feels like home, and I love the team.”
The daughter of Rob and Suzanne Cipolla, she will enroll in human nutrition, food and exercise with a career goal of becoming a physician’s assistant.
