Adair reveals 2017 spring slate

BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech women’s soccer coach Charles “Chugger” Adair announced today the Hokies’ 2017 spring schedule.

Tech will face eight highly-touted opponents this spring, including two teams who finished the 2016 season nationally ranked.

“I’m looking forward to the spring season,” Adair said. “The girls have worked extremely hard, and I’m looking forward to watching them develop as a group and prepare for the upcoming fall.”

Tech will kick off its spring slate in Greenville, South Carolina, as the team takes on Furman and Alabama on Saturday, March 25, at Stone Stadium on Furman’s campus.

Following opening weekend, the Hokies will travel to Huntington, West Virginia, for their second doubleheader event of the spring – hosted by Marshall. The Hokies will face the Thundering Herd and the Ohio Bobcats at the Veterans Memorial Soccer Complex on Saturday, April 1.

Tech will return home the next day for its lone home contest of the spring, as the squad welcomes George Washington to Thompson Field on Sunday, April 2. As always, all home matches are free and open to the public.

On April 9, the Hokies are scheduled to play a pair of matches at the Southern Soccer Scene Tournament in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Tech will square off against East Tennessee State and Atlantic Coast Conference foe North Carolina in the event. Of note, UNC is coming off one of its best seasons in program history, as the Tar Heels reached the ACC Championship finals and advanced to the NCAA semifinals, finishing the season ranked No. 4.

Two weeks later, the Hokies will conclude their spring slate with a match against in-state rival Virginia on Sunday, April 23, at Klockner Stadium on the university’s campus. During the fall season, Virginia came out on top with a 2-0 victory in Charlottesville. Of note, the Cavaliers advanced to the NCAA’s Sweet Sixteen and finished the season ranked No. 11.

The Hokies maneuvered their way through a challenging ACC schedule and finished the 2016 season at 11-5-3 overall, but missed out on the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2007.
