2016 All-ACC Academic Team List
Tiernan, a residential environments and design major, maintained a 4.00 grade point average (GPA) in the fall and was one of three student-athletes who claimed their fourth All-ACC Academic Team honor. Cephers, who is majoring in biology, held a 3.93 GPA throughout the fall semester and received the recognition for just the second time in her career. She was previously named to the list as a sophomore.
All 15 schools were represented on this year’s All-ACC Academic Women’s Soccer Team, totaling 50 student-athletes on the list. Additionally, Duke’s Christina Gibbons was named the ACC Women’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 GPA for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career. Athletic achievements during the most recent season also are considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.
A native of Ashburn, Virginia, Tiernan most recently landed on the 2016 NSCAA NCAA Division I Women’s Scholar All-East Region Second Team as well as the CoSIDA Academic All-District 3 First Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Cephers, a native of Aurora, Colorado, also was most recently named to the NSCAA NCAA Division I Women’s Scholar All-East Region Second Team.
The senior duo finished their Hokie career with a combined 65 goals.
Of note, the ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a GPA of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be released in July.
