BLACKSBURG, Va. – Virginia Tech women’s soccer standout Murielle Tiernan has been named to the 2016 CoSIDA Academic All-District 3 First Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America. The Academic All-District Team award honors the nation’s top student-athletes for their performances in both athletics and in the classroom.
This is the first time Tiernan has been honored by the CoSIDA Academic All-America program, the largest and most prestigious academic honors program in collegiate sports. With this honor, she will now be placed on the national ballot. Tiernan will graduate in May with a degree in residential environments and design.
Tiernan, a senior forward from Ashburn, Virginia, is the program’s all-time leader in goals, with 49 goals and points, with 112 points. She is Virginia Tech’s all-time leader in multiple-goal games, with nine and game-winning goals with 23. A third team 2015 NSCAA All-American, Tiernan is on the MAC Hermann Award watch list. She is a three-time ACC All-Academic Team selection and a Dean’s List student.
The Hokies concluded the 2016 regular season last night with a 1-0 home victory over ACC foe Wake Forest. Tech now awaits the NCAA Selection Show on Monday, Nov. 7.
