BLACKSBURG - The Virginia Tech women’s soccer team closes its 2016 regular-season schedule with a match against Wake Forest on Thursday, Oct. 27, with first kick from Thompson Field set for 7 p.m.

Admission is free, and the match will be streamed live on the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Network Extra through WatchESPN and the ESPN app.

The Hokies (10-5-3, 2-4-3) enter Thursday’s match following a heartbreaking 2-1 double-overtime loss at Miami on Oct. 23, in Coral Gables, Florida. Senior forward Murielle Tiernan put the Hokies’ on the scoreboard first, but it wasn’t enough, as the reigning ACC Offensive Player of the Week, Gracie Lachowecki, netted two goals for the Hurricanes.

The squad ranks 10th in the league with 81 points and sits in seventh with 29 goals on the year. The Hokies are averaging 1.61 goals-per-game and is 7-0-1 when scoring two or more goals this season. A native of Ashburn, Virginia, Tiernan is tied for fifth in the conference with nine goals and paces the squad with 18 points (9 G), followed by junior forward Alani Johnson with 12 (6 G).

Freshman goalkeeper Mandy McGlynn returns to the lineup this week, after receiving an invitation to join the United States U-18 Women’s National Team last week. McGlynn missed three ACC matches to play on the national team against Northern Ireland, France and England in the 2016 Women’s International Cup. She was one of just 20 players chosen to go on the trip and one of just two goalkeepers.

McGlynn has earned credit for five of the team’s shutouts, while redshirt junior Blayne Fink earned one shutout in McGlynn’s absence. McGlynn owns a 1.25 goals-against average.

The Hokies are 6-6-2 all-time against the Demon Deacons (10-7-0, 2-7-0) and have won the last three-of-four contests. In its last outing, Tech earned a 3-1 victory over Wake Forest on Oct. 8, 2015, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

After opening the season 8-1-1, Wake Forest has gone 2-7 in league play. Of note, the Demon Deacons were picked to finish ninth in the 2016 ACC Preseason Coaches’ Poll.

Wake Forest ranks No. 7 in the conference with a 4.88 points-per-game average. Junior defender Maddie Huster paces the team with 14 points (5 G, 4 A), followed by sophomore midfielders Peyton Perea (6 G) and Bayley Feist (5 G, 2 A) with 12 points each.

The Demon Deacons also are ninth in the conference with a 1.00 goals-against average. Junior goalkeeper Lindsay Preston shows a 1.06 GAA and has posted four shutouts and made 51 saves in 16 games.
